Overview

Unified is seeking to hire a full-time Content Creator to own and produce its very own set of short-form video series.  These series will feature real activists and organizers on camera calling attention to the issues they think matter the most and sharing their hottest takes on what it takes to build political power.

You’ll be the host, producer, and editor - showing up to rallies, community meetings, and organizing spaces to catch guests in the field and showcase the raw, unfiltered opinions the world needs to hear.  You’ll be out in the community, building relationships with the people who make movements happen, and turning those relationships into content that drives new users to Unified.

About the company

Unified is the social network for activism.  We are building a complete social networking platform (public news feed, private community chats, etc.) that also includes a comprehensive organizing toolkit (events, fundraising, voting and election data, community insights, and more).  Our goal is to empower activists to build vibrant communities they can quickly mobilize around whatever issue or cause they care about.

We are still fairly early-stage but are starting to build momentum, particularly within Texas (where we are based).  The Texas Democratic Party recently adopted Unified as its official community platform, and several other related groups are in the process of doing so as well.  At the time of this writing, we have about 3,000 registered users.  Our ambition is becoming a national or worldwide platform for activists everywhere, with millions of users and groups (non-profits, political campaigns, and other communities) using Unified to connect, organize, and mobilize.

About the role

Our current social media presence (outside of Unified itself) is very limited.  We post occasional updates on user growth, specific groups adopting Unified, and so on.  We recognize the need to do more, but we want to do it the right way.  Most social media attention is optimized around short-form video - 30 to 60 second clips that hook new viewers immediately and retain audience through a repeatable format.  If we’re going to do social media marketing effectively, let’s lean into what works best.

An example video concept might be an ongoing series of short interviews with existing activists with the following format:

  • Cold open from you to guest: “What should more people care about?”
  • Guest responds with the issue or cause they’re organizing around.
  • You push the guest to elaborate on why that issue matters.  They provide more details, and there is impromptu conversation between the two of you.  Conversation is fun but digs in when needed.
  • Close with a “Sign me up!” and how people can join the cause, with a specific reference to finding the activist on Unified.

With all that in mind, here’s what the role entails:

  • Develop a variety of short-form video concepts that are representative of the Unified brand.
  • Produce and test concepts until 1-3 are shown to produce good engagement (views, sharing, etc).
  • Produce 1 episode per week (across all concepts) end-to-end - sourcing guests, filming, editing, and publishing.
  • Work with other team members to develop and schedule a guest list.
  • Film episodes (with guests), serving as on-camera host, challenging guests, and creating a fun, conversational tension for engaging content.
  • Edit episodes natively for Instagram Reels and TikTok, including captions, pacing, and sound.
  • Write copy and design end cards that drive viewers to guests’ Unified profiles.
  • Share videos on social media (Unified, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, BlueSky).
  • Monitor performance metrics and iterate on hooks, formats, and CTAs.
  • Engage with audience on social media.

What this role requires

To carry out the role, you’ll likely need the following skills:

  • On-camera presence
    • Comfortable balancing charisma and confrontation to establish a fun but insightful rapport with guests
    • Ongoing familiarity with current events to ask meaningful questions on-the-fly
    • Deep understanding of desired narrative structure to capture the necessary components of an effective social media video
  • Short-form video production
    • Using smartphones and essential film equipment (gimbals, mics, lighting) to capture footage for two subjects in a real world (not studio) environment.
    • Editing footage using CapCut, Adobe Premier, and related tools.
  • Social media usage as a content creator
    • Scheduling and distributing content across multiple platforms using Buffer or similar tool
    • Tracking and analyzing engagement stats across platforms
    • Staying current on growth mechanics for each platform

In addition to the skills above, we look for the following qualities in all Unified team members:

  • Highly self-directed with a bias to action
  • Highly self-organized with an extreme attention to detail
  • Highly responsive to internal communication and supportive of other team members’ requests
  • Listens to others and seeks out feedback from team members and third parties
  • Very engaged in understanding the needs of the activists and organizations we serve

We will provide any equipment necessary for the role.
