Strategic Service Designer
Citizen Codex · Remote
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're a modern data innovation studio building products that help people and institutions make sense of complex information. Translating complicated policy, legacy systems, and messy institutional data into impactful tools.
We're looking for a Service Designer who thrives at the intersection of research, strategy, and facilitation, and who wants to own that work end-to-end at a place where your experience and vision matters. You'll partner closely with Product Managers, our Creative Director, and Client Account Leaders to modernize services, improve customer experience, and transform complex, mission-critical systems.
This role is fully remote.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Strategy & Discovery
- Lead end-to-end design strategy from discovery through future-state vision across client products, applications, and AI/LLM-focused tools
- Analyze policy, operational workflows, and legacy systems to map full service ecosystems; identifying patterns and frameworks across site-specific contexts
- Synthesize user research, metrics, and behavioral data into insights that drive measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency, and effectiveness
Artifacts & Communication
- Own the strategic deliverables: service blueprints, journey maps, experience frameworks, and roadmaps
- Translate complex systems and findings into clear visuals, documentation, and executive-ready presentations that connect research to business and technical decisions
Facilitation & Alignment
- Design and facilitate stakeholder workshops that build shared understanding and drive decisions across organizationally complex, multi-stakeholder environments
- Support rollout planning, sequencing, and change management to move alignment into action
Collaboration
- Partner with Project managers, clients, or users to develop and pressure-test concepts and prototypes
- Work with product designers and engineering teams throughout delivery to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, and grounded in validated user needs
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 6+ years of experience in service design, human-centered design, UX/CX strategy, or systems design.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a field emphasizing human-centered problem solving and systems thinking.
- Deep fluency in service blueprinting, user research, journey mapping, and systems thinking.
- Proven track record facilitating workshops with cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to translate high complexity into clear, actionable strategic recommendations.
- Proficiency in modern design and collaboration tools (e.g., Figma, Miro, FigJam).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience leading complex projects or driving service design strategy at a senior or principal level.
- Experience designing for AI-assisted workflows or LLM-powered tools
- A background in Product or UI design, bridging the gap between high-level service ecosystems and digital interfaces.
- Consulting or professional services background, with comfort managing client-facing dynamics.
- Experience navigating regulated, compliance-heavy, or government-adjacent environments.
