Helping people prepare to get into and succeed in college

Education Subcategories

What is college readiness and why is it important?

College readiness is the level at which students have the skills, knowledge, and behaviors needed to be successful in their post-secondary educational pursuits. College readiness is important as it helps to ensure that a student is able to transition into higher education successfully with the appropriate academic skills to be successful in their studies, as well as the non-academic skills to be successful in the realities of being an independent adult.

Many college readiness programs focus primarily on preparing students for post-secondary schooling, while others help both during the preparation stage as well as supporting students during college to help them complete their studies. Both types of organizations and programs are included within our College Readiness & Student Support subcategory.

How is technology helping improve college readiness?

Technology is increasingly being used to help improve college readiness and support students through their programs. This includes online courses tailored to skills and subject areas that students may be lacking, such as math, writing, research skills, and foreign language proficiency. It is also being used to help with test prep and connecting with tutors and mentors. By providing resources and tools to help students build their knowledge and skills, technology can help bridge the gap between what students know and what they need to know in order to be successful in college.
